How much caffeine is in UK energy drinks?

The useful number is the caffeine in the can or bottle you actually drink. Brand names alone do not tell the whole story: the product, serving size and country all matter. TotalCaffeine lets you select a UK or US drink, add the number of servings and see your combined caffeine, sugar and calories.

Use the UK examples below for a quick comparison, or use the energy drink caffeine calculator to add your own combination. These figures come from our recorded catalogue; check your packaging when choosing a product, especially if it is imported or has a different size.

Monster vs Red Bull caffeine

Our UK records list 160mg for Monster Original Green 500ml and 80mg for Red Bull Original 250ml. That is approximately 32.0mg and 32.0mg per 100ml respectively. Compare equal volumes as well as whole cans when deciding what the numbers mean.

Sugar-free does not mean caffeine-free

Sugar and caffeine are separate entries in the calculator. Choosing a sugar-free product can change your sugar total without removing its caffeine. Select the exact variety, such as Monster Ultra White or Red Bull Sugarfree, rather than using the original drink as a substitute.

Lucozade Energy vs other energy drinks

Match both the range and bottle size. Lucozade Energy Orange and Lucozade Alert Original are separate catalogue products, with different recorded caffeine amounts. A bottle-shaped icon helps identify the container; the product name and size identify which figures to use.

How to calculate caffeine from several drinks

Choose your region, select a brand and product, then adjust the quantity. Add another row for a different drink. The total combines each product’s caffeine amount multiplied by its quantity, and applies the same calculation to sugar and calories.

For example, one UK Monster Original Green 500ml plus one Red Bull Original 250ml adds up to 240mg of caffeine using the catalogue values above. Two cans of the same Monster product total 320mg. These are arithmetic examples, not suggested amounts to drink.

Quantity counts servings of the listed size, in half-serving steps. Choose 0.5 for half a can, 1 for a whole can or 1.5 for one and a half. If your can says 355ml, choose that version rather than a 250ml entry. Half a serving contributes half the listed caffeine, sugar and calories.

Caffeine per 100ml vs caffeine per can

A label may give caffeine per 100ml instead of per container. Multiply that figure by the container’s volume divided by 100. For example, 32mg per 100ml in a 500ml can is 32 × 5 = 160mg. Our calculator entries already represent the listed serving, so you do not need to multiply by the volume again.

Why UK and US energy drinks are separate

Products with similar names may have different serving sizes or formulations across markets. Choose the market shown on your drink’s packaging, especially for imports. Switching region asks for confirmation if you have added drinks. Your list is cleared only after the new catalogue loads successfully; if loading fails, your existing drinks are kept. The comparison table above switches with your region and labels the selected market so UK and US figures stay separate.

Your questions answered

Energy drink caffeine calculator FAQs

How much caffeine is in Monster?

The amount depends on the product, size and market. Our UK catalogue lists 160mg in Monster Original Green 500ml. Other flavours and sizes have their own records: choose the exact product in the calculator rather than assuming every Monster drink is identical.

How much caffeine is in Red Bull?

Our UK records list 80mg for Red Bull Original 250ml. A larger can changes the total even when the concentration is similar. Select the can size and region that match your drink.

Which energy drink has the most caffeine?

There is no single answer across every country, brand and container size. Compare caffeine per serving for the products you are considering, and check per 100ml if you want to compare concentration. This catalogue is a selection of drinks, not a complete ranking of every energy drink sold.

Can I compare sugar and calories as well as caffeine?

Yes. Each selected drink contributes to all three totals. Check the exact flavour and whether it is an original, sugar-free or zero-sugar version. A similar name or container colour does not mean the nutrition figures are interchangeable.

Does the total include coffee and tea?

You can add the coffee and tea entries available in your region. Those are reference servings: brewing method, strength and cup size can change the actual amount. The “coffees” figure in the results is a comparison using 95mg per reference cup, not a measurement of your coffee.

Is the daily reference a personal caffeine allowance?

No. The displayed reference is not a target or a personalised safe limit. The calculator adds the caffeine you enter; it does not assess your health, sensitivity or how much caffeine remains in your body. Read the caffeine guide for more context.

Will my drinks be saved for tomorrow?

No. Refreshing the page clears your drinks and chooses the region again from your browser’s language-region preferences, falling back to the UK when there is no supported match. You can change the suggested region. “Today’s total” represents the drinks currently entered, not an automatically recorded daily history.

What if my drink is missing or the label shows a different amount?

Use the packaging as your reference and avoid selecting a different size or flavour just because it looks similar. You can contact TotalCaffeine with the brand, product, market, container size and label details to suggest a correction or addition.
