About TotalCaffeine

TotalCaffeine helps you add up caffeine from the drinks you choose, with separate UK and US product records and clear serving sizes.

The founder of TotalCaffeine

Web developer & energy drink enthusiast

Why I built TotalCaffeine

I’m a web developer with a love of energy drinks. I built TotalCaffeine to make it easier to see how much caffeine is in the drinks we choose, and how those amounts add up across different brands and serving sizes.

My focus is on making the calculator straightforward to use and its numbers easy to trace. Being interested in energy drinks doesn’t make me a health professional: the product figures link back to their sources, and the caffeine guide points to published health guidance.

What makes it useful

Instead of treating a brand as one drink, TotalCaffeine records products and serving sizes separately. Choose the UK or US catalogue, find the exact flavour and size, and add the amount you drank. Caffeine, sugar and calories are calculated separately: a sugar-free drink can still contain caffeine.

How the calculator works

Each row multiplies the listed whole-container nutrition by your quantity. We add those rows to produce your totals. A quantity of 0.5 represents half the listed can, bottle or cup; two represents two of those servings. For example, one 160mg drink plus half an 80mg drink totals 200mg. Values are rounded for display after calculation.

The coffee equivalent divides your caffeine total by a fixed 95mg reference cup. It is a comparison, not an exact conversion to a particular café drink. Brewing method, cup size and ingredients affect real coffee and tea values.

Our data and editorial policy

We prioritise regional manufacturer information and product labels. Where necessary, retailer nutrition information provides additional label evidence. UK and US versions are separate records because similarly named drinks can have different recipes, sizes and caffeine amounts.

Our drink directory links to product sources and shows a review status. “Values checked” means the record has a recorded source check; it is not a guarantee that every can on sale still uses that recipe. “Values awaiting full label verification” means evidence is incomplete. Coffee and tea estimates are labelled because preparation varies.

When a source lists nutrition per 100ml, we multiply by the container volume divided by 100. When it lists values per serving, we account for the number of servings in the container. We do not assume every flavour in a range has identical nutrition.

What a source check does—and does not—mean

Our figures are compiled from published information; they are not laboratory measurements by TotalCaffeine. A product source check covers the listed serving size, caffeine, sugar and calories. It does not review taste, performance or health benefits. If evidence is incomplete, the entry keeps its review warning rather than claiming a completed check.

General health references come from public health and food-safety organisations, linked beside the relevant explanation. Product information comes from product sources. A manufacturer’s marketing claim is not a substitute for health guidance.

Who publishes this content

I publish this site under the TotalCaffeine name, bringing my web development background to the calculator and the way its information is presented. The source and review notes explain the evidence behind individual product records. The guide has not been independently medically reviewed. You can contact me at [email protected] about the site, its content or its sources.

Corrections and editorial independence

Check your packaging if its values differ from our listing. Products, labels and availability change, and imported drinks may use another market’s recipe. Report a correction with the exact product, region, size and supporting label or source.

Popular picks are a curated selection for quick access, not a sales ranking or a recommendation to consume energy drinks. Product names belong to their respective owners. The illustrated drink icons help navigation and are not photographs of the packaging. Advertising, when enabled, is labelled separately from the calculator and editorial content.

Not medical advice

The calculator provides general information only and cannot tell you what amount is safe for you. It does not assess health conditions, medicines, pregnancy or individual sensitivity. The caffeine guide explains the adult reference figures and links to NHS, EFSA and FDA guidance.
