How much caffeine is in UK energy drinks?

The useful number is the caffeine in the can or bottle you actually drink. Brand names alone do not tell the whole story: the product, serving size and country all matter. TotalCaffeine lets you select a UK or US drink, add the number of servings and see your combined caffeine, sugar and calories.

Compare whole-can values below and open a drink’s guide for more detail on sizes and varieties, or use the energy drink caffeine calculator to add your own combination. These figures come from our recorded catalogue; check your packaging when choosing a product, especially if it is imported or has a different size.

Monster vs Red Bull caffeine

Our UK records list 160mg for Monster Original Green 500ml and 80mg for Red Bull Original 250ml. That is approximately 32.0mg and 32.0mg per 100ml respectively. Compare equal volumes as well as whole cans when deciding what the numbers mean.

Sugar-free does not mean caffeine-free

Sugar and caffeine are separate entries in the calculator. Choosing a sugar-free product can change your sugar total without removing its caffeine. Select the exact variety, such as Monster Ultra White or Red Bull Sugarfree, rather than using the original drink as a substitute.

Lucozade Energy vs other energy drinks

Match both the range and bottle size. Lucozade Energy Orange and Lucozade Alert Original are separate catalogue products, with different recorded caffeine amounts. A bottle-shaped icon helps identify the container; the product name and size identify which figures to use.

Make your total count

From the can to your caffeine total

1. Match the drink in your hand

Choose the country, brand, flavour and size shown on the packaging. A 250ml can and a 500ml can are separate servings, even when they share a name. Check the original market on imported drinks.

2. Count whole cans, bottles or cups

Use quantity 1 for one listed serving, 2 for two, and so on. Add another row for a different drink. You can also browse the drink catalogue and select “Add to calculator” on a product card.

One UK Monster Original Green 500ml plus one Red Bull Original 250ml totals 240mg of caffeine. Two of those Monster cans total 320mg. These examples explain the calculation, not an amount to aim for.

3. Read each total separately

Caffeine, sugar and calories are added from each product’s own figures. Zero sugar does not mean zero caffeine. The “coffees” figure is simply your caffeine total divided by a 95mg reference cup; it does not measure the coffee you drink.

Reading a per-100ml label?

Multiply by the container size divided by 100. A 500ml can labelled 32mg caffeine per 100ml contains 32 × 5 = 160mg. Catalogue entries already cover the whole listed container, so no extra volume calculation is needed.

Using the calculator

Will my drinks still be here when I come back?

Your drinks and quantities stay in place while you visit other pages on this site, with separate lists for UK and US products. Refreshing the page clears those lists. Your latest selected region is saved separately and survives a refresh. This is not a daily diary and does not automatically reset at midnight.

What happens when I switch region?

Your latest choice applies across the calculator and catalogue. If the calculator already contains drinks, it asks before switching and clearing the current selection. Guides show your preferred region first. Product links open the calculator for the exact drink’s market.

How do I find drinks with less caffeine or sugar?

Open the catalogue, choose all brands or a specific brand, then sort by caffeine, sugar or calories, lowest first. Figures are per listed container: compare sizes as well as numbers. The catalogue covers a selection of products, not every drink on sale.

Can I include coffee and tea?

Yes-choose an available coffee or tea entry for your region. These are reference servings, and the actual amount depends on brewing, strength and cup size. Check the entry’s estimate and serving notes before adding it.

Does the total tell me how much caffeine is still in my body?

No. It adds the caffeine in the drinks you enter. It does not account for when you drank them or how quickly your body processes caffeine. The displayed daily reference is not a target or personal allowance. Read the caffeine guide for context and published health sources.

What if my drink is missing or the label differs?

Use your packaging as the reference. Do not substitute a different size or flavour just because it looks similar. Send us the brand, product, country, container size and label details to suggest an addition or correction.
